Alden Hoshida

Attorney and founder, Hoshida Law

A family lawyer who keeps a small practice on purpose, so each case gets his own attention from the first call to the final order.

Alden grew up on Spokane's north side, the son of a schoolteacher and a machinist. After law school he practiced at a larger downtown firm, where he learned how a family case is tried and how much of it can be settled before anyone gets near a courtroom.

He opened Hoshida Law in 2011 with one rule: take fewer cases and see every one through himself. Clients have his direct line, he returns his own calls, and nobody is handed off to someone they haven't met.

Outside the office he's a parent of two, a regular at the Saturday market and, most springs, an assistant coach for a youth baseball team.

The office

Why one lawyer, and why downtown

The office is a short walk from the county courthouse, up one flight of stairs on West Riverside Avenue. It's small: one meeting room with a window, one desk, and a door that closes.

Keeping it that size means saying no to some cases. It also means that when you call about yours, the person who answers already knows it.

Brick and stone storefronts with arched windows catch the last light above a row of parked trucks
